Chapter 38:

This is aout Miss Sadie. She had a son, they come to America. The boy is classified as healthy, but the mom (Miss Sadie) is not.

Later, the woman gets well enough so she goes back to the U.S. She finds out her son lived in an orphanage then sent to the west. She ends up going to Manifest and finds her son, but he is being raised by a man named Hadley Gillen, and renamed him as Ned. She decides not to say or tell about him being his mother for the fear of a miss understanding. So she just does what a deviner does; watch, wait, love. The nn is the only one that knows her secret. Miss Sadie waits until the story can be told again, and Miss Sadie guesses it was time with Abilene.

Chapter 37:

She got the last memento, the skull key, and went to Miss Sadie's garden shed, open it and found the elixer she then took it and put it on Miss Sadie's leg. Abilene felt like she had divined her own story.

chapter 36:

There was a letter from Ned.

She took her compass and realized that it was Ned's, and her father and jinx where the same people Then Shady came to find her, and told Abilene that once Jinx (her father) found out that NEd died he thought it was his fault because of his past, so he left and never came back.

Chapter 35:

Miss Sadie continued.
What really happened wasFinn was scared so he shot Jinx, but then got his foot stuck in a raccoon trap fell back and hit his head so hard on a rock, he died. The homecoming continued, everyone was happy.
Then a man came to announce that Ned had died.

Abilene was confused, angry, and sad. She felt so connected. She thought that Jinx had died.

Chapter 33:

It was the time for homecoming in manifest.

The sherif in Manifest always had his eye on Jinx, so him and Shady played a little trick on him. There was a man ( sherif ) who wants to capture the man who killed another man named Jr. back then (jinx was with finn, when finn met up with the man he used to work for, Finn didn't want to put up with Jr. and finn made Jinx think hat he killed Jr.  but really Finn did) So Jinx runs, and runs. He runs into Finn, and finn told Jinx that he had been spying on him ever sense he got here and how it is like Jinx's home, the threatens Jinx, but Jinx tells him that he needs to stay and that this is his home, Finn then puts a gun to Jinx's head. They heard a noise, Finn got scared, he shot Jinx and then...

Chapter 32:

Abilene ran into Mis Sadie's to tell her the news about the rattler, but Mis Sadie's was quiet. she seemed shy and somber. She told another story about myths!

Chapter 31:

People from everywhere to the "Remember when" Abilene, Ruthanne, and Lettie found the one with the same handwriting as the note that said "leave well enough alone" It was Mr. Underhill, it turns out he was just annoyed with the girls following him (spy hunting) so he wrote that on out tree house. But he has been doing some things that he should not be doing like making people's graves smaller even though they cost the same amount, miss Hattie Mae found out about this when she said to Mr. Underhill you have some explaining to do, what she meant was he wrote something in the remember when contest, she did not like.

Chapter 30:

Abilene heads to bed, questioning everything she has learned. She then slips outside, hearing music. She spots Shady Helping The people along the railroad. Then crawls back into bed.

Chapter 29:

The Mines started up again.
Burton found out about the towns people that where raising money to out bid him, and crashed another town meeting. A man came in ( No one knew him ) And asked for some water, pored some stuff in it and drank it, he said something about the water and Burton read it as it was healing water.

Later the town got together at court to settle the buying of the late Witto Cane's property, Shady went up against Burton but of coarse Burton won, but he only bought it because he thought it was healing water, but it was not; the man that no one knew really was Miss Larkin's nephew, and what he put in the water was for his upset stomach, so Burton was wrong, and this whole thing was planned by Jinx. Burton got fired and him and his boss Devlin  ran out of the court as fast as they could knowing they were outsmarted.

Chapter 28:

Abilene had to do work. She thought a lot about Gideon, and wanted to hear more storys. Miss Sadie still had more story's and Abilene was still very very interested...

Chapter 27:

Abilene was with Lettie And Ruthanne. They studied the note from Ned. And thought about the note someone left on the treehouse saying; "Leave well enough alone" Then they got an idea...

Hattie Mae's News auxiliary said that:
Manifest will be hosting  a "Remember when" contest, where you write your favorite memorie from Manifest.

Abilene, Lettie, and Ruthanne made this up. Secretly so they could mach the handwriting to the note that said " Leave well enough alone"

Chapter 26:

The elixer started to run out because more and more people were getting sick. A man died in Manifest so Shady, Jinx and another man buried him. And another letter from Ned came to Jinx.

Abilene was going to Miss Sadie's, but feeling a little uncertain about Miss Sadie.

Abilene was walking around town. Some people started talking to her, all knowing of her spy hunt. That night Shady had his get together, Ms.Evans even came! They talked about all of the problems of the town.

Chapter 23:

Abilene, Lettie and Ruthanne thought about Another letter from Ned to Jinx, and about the rattler. They snuck into the school to look for the note from the rattler Ned told about in his letter. Abilene, Lettie and Ruthanne found all kinds of notes under desks of kids, but Lettie found the one about the rattler, and that Stucky Subulsis wrote it. They then heard the janitor and hurried out of the school.

Chapter 22:She finally got one out of her.
This one was about the influensa, and how work was then put off and school was delayed. the town was happy. It was all about Shady's and Velma T's elixer, because it was so good a curing people, everyone wanted it.

Abilene went to work for Miss sadie. Abilene was really in the mood for more storys, but Miss Sadie would not tell one. Abilene Was trying to get her to tell one by bringing up conversations that might lead to one.

Chapter 20:
Abilene, Lettie and Ruthanne played jumprope. Then they looked around town spying on people who might be the rattler. Lettie and Ruthanne went ahead and Abilene could not find them. A dog started chasing her, she hoped over a fence, then she realized it was the lady Lettie and Ruthanne said  turned you to stone if you looked in her eyes house! Ms.Evan's looked at her she said that shady is having a get-together and ran. She then found Lettie and Ruthanne.

Chapter 19:

The storyis about Jinx and Shady- There is a town meeting, Jinx had to hind because he was not invited but lived with Shady, but he found a peep whole to watch the "drama" Late he knocks a jar over and gets caught, before they could scold him, he planed to help them.

Lettie and Ruthanne were gone so Abilene had nothing to do. She talked to Hattie Mae about Abilene's dad and the town. She then went down by the railroad and as a train passed she wanted to take it, but didn't. Then Abilene goes back to work for Miss Sadie, she tells another story...

Miss Sadie is telling another story about Jinx's life while Ned was gone.

Abilene told Lettie and Ruthanne about Miss Sadie's story. Then they went into the woods to get more stuff for Miss Sadie. Lettie told a scary story, then they grabbed some worms for Miss Sadie's garden and ran back to shady's place,  the girls were sleeping over. They found a note on the treehouse saying; "leave well enough alone"

Abilene finishes up work and goes frog hunting with Lettie and Ruthanne. They hear a scream and go to find their teacher Sister Redempta helping a lady that is giving birth. So they go back to frog hunting.

This chapter is Miss Sadie telling the story about Ned and Jinx, and the mining of Manifest.

Lettie and Ruthanne think Abilene is crazy to work for Miss Sadie.
Today Abilene had to work on the garden.While she worked Miss Sadie told her another story about Ned and Jinx, and Manifest

Abilene found out that Shady found out about the whole compass thing, and how she has to pay off debt to Miss Sadie. Then Ruthanne and Lettie come in to say hi, they found a list of suspects.

Back to Miss Sadie. Abilene and Miss Sadie made a deal, Abilene would do some work for Miss Sadie and then when she was done Miss Sadie would give her compass back.

Chapter 7:

This chapter is about a boy named Jinx and a young adult named Ned. They meet in a weird way, and see these men. They scramble to get away, making up lies, pretending the are one of them.

Chapter 6:

Shady had to leave for a while, so Abilene stayed and cleaned up the house. Then she went to Miss Sadie's house. It read enter, so she did. Abilene walked around, than Miss Sadie, sat down behind her. Abilene then found out that Miss Sadie was a fortune teller, so Abilene said; "I'm looking for my daddy" Miss Sadie told her ; " The boy is tired and hungry. He must act now. he must make a leap of faith..."

Chapter 5:

They looked at the map and letter, Abilene want to find out about the other letters by herself. They went out searching for "The Rattler" They examined many people who looked suspicious, they followed a man to a cemetery. They decided they would go home and meet up in the morning. Abilene got home and felt that her compass, her most treasured possessions was gone. She went back to the graveyard to find it hanging along with wind chimes on a house that she found out belonged to Miss Sadie.  She fell backwards, broke a pot then ran home, without getting her compass.

Chapter 4:

After school Abilene goes to the treehouse in the back yard of Shady's house. It is old, and looks like it could break any minute. But she climbs up the rope latter. She remembers the cigar box, so she goes and grabs it. Once in the treehouse, she opens the cigar box and finds some kind of spy map, drawings of town, fishhooks, keys, a doll, and letters. She hopes they are from Gideon but they are not. Lettie and Ruthanne come to say hi, at first Abilene denies them. they tell her helpful things to know in Manifest and so Abilene asks if they have ever seen this, and she pulls out the map.

Chapter 3;

It is Abilene's frist day of school, and last. The kids are of coarse asking all kinds of questions. Not all nice.  Abilene is TOLD that she is an orphan,  she tells them that she doesn't  know where her mom is and she has a daddy, but he is working so she is staying here for the summer. There teacher comes in, and all the kids ignore her and greet the teacher. The teacher hands back all of there report cards, and Abilene just smiles knowing she doesn't have to any of this. Then the teacher calls her name...

... The teacher tells Abilene that because she wasn't here when all of this happened and she showed up at least once she would receive a writing assignment to do over the SUMMER!

Chapter 2:
Pages 23-25

Abilene woke up to the sounds of pots and pans, and the smell of bacon and coffee. She was thinking about how she has to go to school on the last day. She remembered the cigar box, and went over to find the louse board, but Shady called up to tell her that it was breakfast time. So she put on her cloths and washed her face. Then she went down stair's for breakfast. Shady was working on the typewriter  Hattie Mae gave him to work on. he noticed the paper on the table,  then took it and headed out the door.

Chapter 1:
pages 11-22

The man asked if the compass in his hand was hers, and she realized it was. The man knew who she was,  and she felt relieved. It turns out her was the man she was staying with, Pastor Howard, but is called Shady. He is a pastor filling in until they find a new one.   The town was nothin like what her father had said, it was now old looking, warn down, gray and had no life to it, unlike how her dad had described it. Shady takes her into town, and Abilene gets to meet Hattie Mae, she is very kind and offers Abilene a soda and sandwich. Hattie Mae's room has endless stacks of newspapers, that her husband insists on keeping. While Abilene  is looking at the newspapers they whisper and she hears her name but knows nothing about what they are saying. Than Hattie Mae says that Abilene will be going to school, but only for the last day, and Abilene complains.  The phone rings and Shady and Abilene are gone, they go to shady's house witch Abilene finds to be part saloon, part carpenter shop, and somehow part church. Shady's says that this is used as the church because the other burned down, that's also why the other pastor left. Then he showed me to my room, it was nice I had a perfect view of the moon. As Abilene slipped in bed she remembered that her father would always hind his important belongings, so she looked around then Abilene found a bord that was louse, so she got her fingers under just enough to pull it up, and it would have been a good spot but there was already something there, an old cigar box full of letters, Abilene began to look through it when Shady called out to say goodnight, so she slipped it back along with her bag and got in bed.

Before part 1:

Abilene Tucker is 12 years old and was sent away from her father, because the had a job on the railroad in Iowa, that he could not do with his daughter, so he sent her on a train. She could only imagen and slightly remember all of the stories her dad had told her about the place her father grew up, Manifest, Kansas. She was going to Manifest over the summer to stay at an old friends house while her father works. she had to jump off the train.

Before part 2:

She started walking on a path that took me to the town, she could remember that here and her father would make up rhymes so she started on her own. She would say them out loud. There was a crunching noise behind her, she felt a panic. She started a new rhyme and a mans voice finished it.
The sign her father told her about that once said;  Manifest: A town with a rich past and a bright future now it read; Manifest: A town with a past.

Moon over manifest

In english we were given the assignment to find a book that we would like to read, and keep track of, and note what is going on in the book. To keep track we each will be writing a journal about the book, and where we are.

We also will be identifying and tracking 3 literary concepts from the novel we are reading.
